Alyssa’s meaningful ponderings...
I don’t believe in love at first sight. I know, the idea of it is really romantic and everything, but I just don’t think it happens. How can you see someone and fall in love with them straight away? Love is a deep, tender, ineffable feeling of affection and solicitude toward a person, such as that arising from kinship, recognition of attractive qualities, or a sense of underlying oneness.(www.dictionary.com) You can’t have kinship without actually knowing the person, and to recognise their attractive qualities you have to have at least some sense of who they are. Basing your feelings of “love” solely on the person’s looks (which is all you see at first sight), is not love at all, but lust. I believe in lust at first sight, but true love? It’s a nice thought, and I wish I did believe in it, but it just seems illogical.
Ronald Reagan once said “Abortion is advocated only by persons who have themselves been born.” That’s a really good point. I would never, ever have an abortion. I believe that a human life begins at conception, and therefore abortion is murder. Back in high school, I did an assignment on abortion, and found that a very high percentage of women use abortion merely as a means of birth control. People have to be prepared to face the consequences of their actions, and it’s no secret that no one form of birth control has a 100% success rate. So if you have sex, there’s a chance that you may get pregnant. We should all face up to our responsibilities, and not simply decide to slaughter a human being because they might hinder our lifestyle. That’s really despicable.
I find it hard to believe that some people don’t believe in God. Take a look around you... the golden glow of a sunset, the luminous colours of a rainbow, the smiling face of a baby, the people who make your life whole... all of these things cannot have just appeared, by some cosmic accident. That we came from nothing and will become nothing is an awful viewpoint to have. Believing this leads to the ultimate conclusion that life is meaningless. Life is not meaningless. God has a purpose for your life and no one can take your place. ‘Seeing is believing’? Feeling is also believing. We can’t see the wind, but we feel it against our skin. We can’t see love, but we feel it in our hearts. God is unseen, but we feel His presence around us. Charles R. Swindoll once said “God may be invisible, but He’s in touch. You may not be able to see Him, but He’s in control. That includes what you’ve just lost. That includes what you’ve just gained. That includes all of life – past, present, future.
All this meaningful pondering has left me in the mood for another quizzy thing. So to reward my good posting behaviour, I've done this really cool one that tells you how old you act. :)
